Summary: Four student advocates for immigrant rights began a march from Miami to Washington D.C. The students said they would walk about 16 miles a day and hoped to reach Washington by May. Their trek is intended to raise awareness of the difficult life of illegal immigrants. Supporters of immigrant groups, like the students, face many challenges to reform particularly the high rate of unemployment. Many in congress seem hesitant to support immigrants when so many Americans are out of work. Nevertheless, supporters in California and Illinois are preparing rallies and other demonstrations to pressure for new laws.
How it is related to class: This is related to class because it covers the topic of how many immigrants feel they do not have enough rights. Also, we talked about how many Americans do not like the fact that illegal immigrants are taking their jobs.
Questions:
1. Why are the students walking to Washington D.C.?
2. What is one reason that Americans do not like illegal immigrants?
3. Do you think that their walk will help raise awareness about immigrants?
My Answers:
1. The students are walking to Washington D.C. because they want to raise awareness about immigrants. They also want to give more rights the to the immigrants that come to our country.
2. A reason why Americans do not like immigrants is because many immigrants are taking the places of American's jobs. Most Americans feel that it is unfair that someone that entered our country illegally is allowed to take their place.
3. I think that their walk will not make a big impact. They do not have much power so I think that the government won't really take their walk seriously.

1) To raise awareness of the challenging life of illegal immigrants.
2) One reason is that so many people in the U.S are already unemployed, and supporting immigrants to come into the U.S could potentially increase that rate.
3) Yes, their will walk will raise awareness about immigrants, since people have recognized it already and that there's an article about this(if not more).

1) To raise awareness about the hardships of immigrants. To motivate other people to rally for immigrants, and to pressure congress for new laws
2) Because they get into the country illegally.
3) Yes but not on a grand scale but it will be a start of a butterfly effect

1. Students are walking to D.C. to raise awareness about the difficult life of illegal immigrants
2. One reason why people don't like immigrants is because the immigrants are taking jobs from Americans. They think that someone who comes in the country illegally shouldn't get a job over an native born.
3. I dont believe that there walk will make a big impact because there isnt enough people involved in the walk. But i think its a great thing that the students are protesting something that they believe in

1.They are marching to raise awareness about the hardships that immigrants face and advocating for immigrant rights.
2.One reason Americans do not like immigrants is because they stereotype them and assume that they come illegally. They are upset and think that the immigrants take away pay and jobs from the nation without truly being American.
3.I think it will spread to other immigrants and eventually these immigrants will voice their opinion and their rights, but I think only after an extremely large number of immigrants have spoken the government will not change their policies.

1. They are marching to raise awareness about the hardships of immigrants and the hardships that they go through every day.
2. One reason is that they get into this country illegally and take jobs for lower prices which is taking jobs away from Americans.
3. Yes, their walk has obviously raised awareness (this article) and I'm sure it will continue to raise awareness throughout the whole country.
