Summary:
Iran is trying to make multiple nuclear weapons. The U.N. believes that this is wrong so they are trying to stop them. To try and stop them, the US has already placed sanctions (limits, restrictions) on Iran's money supply. They are not allowing them to take any money from any nation. But now, the United States believes that individuals of the Revolutionary Guard are supplying money to Iran's nuclear program. So, the US has asked the UN to place sanctions on those people from Iran.
How it relates to class:
The idea of the United Nations began in 1919 with President Wilson's 14 Points peace plan. He wanted a way for countries to be able to try and solve problems peacefully without having to go to war. Many nations, mainly the US, had problems with what was happening in Iran and their nuclear weapons. The US brought this to the United Nations where they are trying to solve the problem without another World War arising.
My questions:
1. Would it be smart for the US and other nations to eventually declare war on Iran if nothing was working? Why or why not.
2. How effective do you think that taking away their money supply is? Why?
3. What do you think the next step in trying to stop Iran should be?
My answers:
1. I don't think that it would be smart because Iran has a lot of nuclear weapons because that is what they are continuing to make. With all of their unclear weapons, they could use a nuclear bomb on us like we did to Japan in WWII. A nuclear bomb, or any nuclear weapon could destroy millions of people leaving us with little military power and possibly having to admit defeat.
2. I think that it is pretty effective because before Iran was taking money from other countries that way they could purchase the things that they need to make the weapons. If they do not have a way to get money, then they can't go out buying more things to make their nuclear weapons.
3. I think that a way to further develop their program might be to ask other countries to stop making the materials that Iran is buying because even if they can't buy more money, they might be able to come up with money themselves.

yes but we would have to do a sweep mission where overnight our troops go into the city and occupy it making sure that it dosent turn out like our first plan and maybe annex the nation
non effectaive it actualy made the econamy worse because now the goverment does not have enough money for schools religeos building etc
annex them occupy them tell the goverment about the cash that comes with sweatshops and now there turning to the terrorists and illigal operations for money in exchange for diplomatic ummutaty and outhere mumbo jumbo so i think the next thing we discover in iran is a maruwanna cult where they sell it for money to underground bisnesses

1) i dont think that it would be smart for the US and other countries to declare was on iran. We are already in a struggle with iran, and we could not afford to fight any more conflicts.
2) i think that placing an embargo on iran would be somewhat effective for a period of time. It would work until they figure out that they can get money from people such as the taliban or other groups that have similar interests.
3) the next step could be to encourage other countries around iran that we are friendly with to keep watch over iran. If anything disturbing, such as nuclear weapons, is found, we should then try a diplomatic solution rather than war

1. We shouldn't declare war on Iran because there would be no reason to fight them. If they start using the dropping the bombs, then we should declare war. We shouldn't do it now. If it escalates, we should.
2. Taking away their money supply is smart because they eventually won't have enough money to fund the program.
3. I think it would be to send spies in to investigate the problem. If they find a large issue, the US should address Iran and tell them what they know about the nuclear program.
