As many of you may know, the Apple iPad is coming. Apple recently announced the US release date is April 3 for $499, with the rest of the world coming not long after. At its release, the iPad will empty off Apple Stores' shelves, with the online store following suit. An analyst thinks this is because there is a very large group of Apple loyalists who will be getting the product. The analyst, Ezra Gottheil, says this is because the tech giant has the best marketing in the industry. He also says that it will sell out, due to the fact that there are only 300,000 units available for sale, possibly because Apple didn't have time to make enough for their quick release after the announcement of the device. Market research says that after the initial burst of sales, and then 6 months later, there will be another boom.
This relates to Social Studies because we were reading about the Roaring '20 and the Industrial Revolution. It is a new invention with new ideas and new technologies, such as the new processor coupled with the new product. Also, it relates to the Great Depression because it will sell initially well, sales will die down, and then go back up when there is need.
Questions:
1. What do you think of the iPad? Is it a revolutionary product or a pitiful novelty?
2. Will you be getting an iPad? Why or why not.
3. Why do you think that there will be a slump and then another boom in six months?
Answers:
1. I think it is very revolutionary. With all the new technologies, it is really something else.
2. I might be getting an iPad. The price is really good compared to other comparable computers, but it's still 500 dollars.
3. I think it's because there is always a burst for everything, and then in six months, holiday shopping will start.

I think the iPad is like a laptop, but just touchscreen. It can search the web, you can play apps/games and more. I do not think that it is a revolutionary product because there are many things out there that can do the same stuff it does, and more. It is cool, but not revolutionary.
I will not be getting the iPad because I do not need one, and they are expensive. I have an ipod, and a computer, witch is what the Ppad is, except touch screen.
I think that once something new comes out, everyone wants to get it, but after many crazed people already have it, there will be a slump. Once the prices drop, I think there will be another boom because more people will feel comfortable buying it with its reduced price.

1. I think that the iPad is revolutionary product because it is taking the iTouch to a new level by transforming it into a portable computer with a amazing interface.
2. I won't be getting the iPad because as much as it would be cool to have one, I don't need one because I already own a computer. However, if I didn't have a computer or iTouch, I would get the iPad because it is less expensive than a regular computer and it is portable.
3. I think there will be a slump and then another boom because after the iPad is sold out, there will be nothing new in the store, and most people already have electronics from the store. Therefore, they won't be making as many sales. People are only interested if they have a new breakthrough in technology. When they make more iPads though and you can buy them at the store, they will make a lot of sales.

1. I don't really think the iPad is that revolutionary. Basically, it seems to me, its just a large version of an iTouch. Although it doesn't seem like anything extraordinarily groundbreaking, it does seem pretty cool!
2. Well I don't have a computer, so that might be a good option for when I do get one. However, I will probably just get a laptop, its more convenient. But if I did have my own computer, I would not get the iPad, because I already have an iTouch. It just wouldn't make much sense, I think.
3. I think that when anything new comes out, people go crazy for it. But after a little bit, people just get tired of it or don't want to pay for it. But as the holiday season comes around, often the price goes down, making the purchase more reasonable.

1. the I-pad is a pitiful novelty it's the over sized gollum of the apple assembly line. they probably got bored and decided make it bigger, whats next the I-defibrillator?
2. No i don't like apple or any computer company for that matter and i don't plan on getting something every kid who think "expensive products make me cooler" is gonna get.no i wil not buy this I-pad you speak so fondly of.
3. no this thing will destroy apple who really needs an over sized I-pod? one word apple net-book... need a computer by something that isn't a piece of junk, for once, this apple's way of letting itself go...

1.) It depends on four things. hard drive, processing speed and durability. We will only know for sure after it has been out for a few weeks
2.) depends on how cheap it gets after the slump.
3.) because its new so prices are high then demand goes down so the product gets cheaper then its more affordable and alot of people buy it and it might go up depending on how many people bought it and liked it after the slump.

1) I think the iPad is a fabulous and smart invention. It is combing probably the most often used electronics a person uses in the US; a computer and iPod. Even though some may just think it's just like a laptop but with a touchscreen, every invention is different, and who knows? Maybe it wount be as popular as planed.
2) No I don't want an iPad right now. reason being because I just got an iTouch for Christmas, also because I already have a computer. Both of those pretty much add up to the same thing in my mind. Plus it is expensive.
3) I predict that there will be a slum after all the inventory is sold. But once they release some more of the product people will happily buy the new, hot item. Also, of corse there will be a big boom in 6 or more months, there always is for the holiday season.

1.) The ipad is extremely revolutionary, if you think about it it is a ginormous iphone but with no phone.
2.) Yes i will be getting a ipad i have a lap top but i have been dreaming about a touchscreen laptop.
3.) There will be a boom and than a slump because everyone buys it and soon enough everyone has one and they dont buy it.

1. I think of the ipad as a giant itouch. I think its more of pitiful novelty than an revolutionary. I think its going to really popular when it comes out and then no ones going to want it anymore.
2. For my birthday i was planning on getting an laptop, but im not sure if i should get a ipad or a laptop. So maybe not sure yet. I know that the ipod is almost 500 dollars cheaper than the cheapest apple computer, so maybe
3. I think there will be a slum because there going to run out of stock andw then when they have more, if it gets good reviews, everyone is going to want one.
