Summary:
A representative in congress recently proposed a new immigration reform bill. The most important part of the bill would let illegal immigrants become legal. The process would require them to show that they have been working, undergo a criminal background check, and pay a fine of $500. It has gotten some mixed responses from the rest of congress. Some people think that it would help solve our immigration problem. Many people though, think that it would just encourage immigrants to come and take American jobs. We already have a 10% unemployment rate. Several similar bills were proposed and failed when Bush was president.

Relation to Class:
In class we have been talking a lot about immigration. We have been talking about the immigration wave in the late 1800s and the early 1900s, but right now our countries in the largest immigration wave since then. this bill is one idea for a solution to the problems that are coming with the immigrants.
Questions:
1) Do you think a bill like this will take away American Jobs?
2) Do you think it's right to let illegal immigrants become legal?
3) Do you think that this bill should not be put into place because similar bills failed?
Answers:
2) I think it could promote more immigrants to come in, and they are going to be looking for jobs, so I do think that it could effect the job market.
2) I do not. It's not fair to the people who are going through the process legally and are still waiting. If they really want to get into the country, the should follow the rules from the start.
3)I don't think that the success of past bills should be a factor. It's obvious that there is a problem with our immigration system, and something needs to be changed about that. This bill could be a viable solution.

1) No, I don't think this will diminish American's jobs. Illegal aliens are already working in the U.S., and the general output of this bill is to have illegal immigrants gain legal status. So this isn't taking away American's jobs.
2) I believe it's right to have illegal immigrants become legal. They're already in the U.S., so deporting them or jailing them won't help anything. Instead, the government can collect fines and have immigrants seek a better life in the U.S.
3) This bill definitely has potential and is worth putting up for a vote in Congress. Illegal immigrants will have a chance to come out of the shadows, work and not fear being found.

1) No, I do not think that this will take away American jobs. Why? There are no more American jobs, they are all being outsourced to countries where workers hardly have to be paid anything and working conditions can be close to lethal. If illegal immigrants can take away what American Jobs remain, it just proves that American public education is truly inadequate.
2) it is fair for illegal immigrants to become citizens but not before people who have applied for citizenship legally. my response, get in line.
3) I think that any bill that will pass will pass, so weather or not similar bill failed in the past is a moot point.

this always is game of monopoly you have to make decisions that affect the other in a good or bad way
it can go good or bad because there be those who have helped our country and those who are from the drug cartels so its at a point of indecision.
it is more likely that this bill will fail because bills recently similar will be declined
